This challenge was to create a light filled extension to compliment an elegant 18th century Georgian country house, set on mature grounds with stunning views over an adjoining river and stone bridge.
Respecting the language of the original Georgian building, the design solution assimilates the traditional pitched roof form but with a contemporary twist, such as to clearly differentiate this new phase of construction from what came before. Within the proposed extension the relocated kitchen is aligned to frame the dramatic view to the stone bridge. The vaulted ceiling is flooded with natural light, from above, and creates a transformed and uplifting space. Connection to the adjoining tree laden lawns, and river beyond, is created by way of large sliding glass doors.
