The meadow, on which the site for this proposed dwelling is to be located, is shared with an ancient Irish ringfort. Thus, the concept of a curved dwelling took hold. A natural dip in the contours, of the western end of the meadow, provides the perfect resting place for this future part two storey family home.
The crescent shaped plan arranges the main spaces with a southerly aspect and facilitates large expanses of floor to ceiling glazing, with an oval shaped canopy beyond, providing for solar shading. A feature spiral staircase connects the living zone with the second level atrium-style space. Future wheelchair accessibility has been incorporated throughout the design, with space for a future lift, accessible bathrooms and wheelchair turning circles.
Splashes of stone and timber cladding combine to successfully anchor the strong distinctive curved form of the building into its surrounding landscape. This bespoke family ‘fortification’ truly is a home of the future.
